Elena Skoko inherited her passion for clothes from her mother, an excellent tailor who`d been working in fashion industry and later had her own atelier. Until she went to university, she was designing her own wardrobe and learning how to make patterns. Though her first wish was to become a fashion designer, there were so many other things she was curious to learn about. Most of all she wanted to travel and gain experiences.
In 2000 she starts getting into indie fashion. It started with stage costumes she was designing for her own rock`n`roll performances. They were spotted by few fashion PRs and designers who invited her to make a show. She won the prize as best young fashion designer at Night Wave in Rimini with the "Rock`n`roll Girls Wear 2000" collection. In partnership with Sergio Scanu aka DJ Omnidrive, she founded her label Sugarbabe.org. The production included a collection of feminine and handcrafted items named "OphLove" and a limited street couture series "PROLETER-K", creative everyday apparel. In 2004 they opened Sugar Babe expo-shop in Bologna and started selling in Belgium, Greece, Croatia, Switzerland, Austria and Japan. They participated several times at Bread & Butter Barcelona fashion fair. Her collections received press attention since the beginning, including Vogue Italia, Sportswear International and D di Repubblica.
OphLove and PROLETER-K are at present “frozen” projects, waiting for divine and secular inspiration, though Sugar Babe continues to make her own wardrobe and provides fashion and music industry with her ideas and knowledge.
